During the Summer of 2017 in Italy we spent a month hopping between some of the country's most beautiful towns accommodated entirely in an array of magical little air bnbs. As a couple we stayed mostly in budget 'entire apartments' however on the occasion we booked a 'private room' it never failed to let us down. Here are 5 links to our absolute favourites from the month that I would highly recommend staying in and why:

Arrigo runs a small apartment building where he lets out rooms on air bnb for a bed and breakfast style experience right in the heart of Siena. You have a private room and bathroom and a shared kitchen area with 2 other rooms (which were empty when we went so it was all ours). It was about a 15 minute cab ride from the train station and situated a short walking distance from the main streets, making it's location was absolute gold. Besides it's five star location, it's perched perfectly on a small hill which provides the most magical view of the romantic old town. It was the perfect place for a couple of beverages on the veranda before a stroll into town for a delicious dinner.
#2 FLORENCE

At the time this was the absolute best Air Bnb in the whole world for one simple reason - it has a washing machine! We stayed here almost two months into our trip, by which point we were in desperate need of a washing machine (don't worry we had been washing in public laundromats and hand washing a lot) but the privilege of an in house washing machine was magic. So put simply, this apartment was perfect. It was walking distance from the city centre and Florence's main cathedral making it easy to get around and find nearby eats. It had a great little kitchen to cook in and an immaculate spacious bathroom. Considering it was central, air conditioned and had such an array of amenities it was definitely bang for your buck at just $104/night in the heart of Summer.
#3 PRAIANO, AMALFI COAST

Do not be put off by the 'Private room in tiny house' because this little room is its own little piece of paradise. Spectacular view is an understatement - you're basically sleeping on the ocean its so close. Praiano is a beautiful little town in the heart of the Amalfi Coast and very underrated when compared with its neighbours. It's a peaceful little cove with a handful of exquisite restaurants perched on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. The hosts are a beautifully natured traditional Italian family who run the restaurant just down stairs and offer a small discount to guests. The room is small but its very clean with a good bathroom and has a fridge and facilities to make tea and coffee to enjoy on the balcony. It's a little pricier but its absolutely worth every cent for the amazing view and ability to walk a sheer hundred meters to the beautiful Mediterranean water.
#4 VERONA

Another beauty under $100 for the night for an entire apartment! The home of Romeo and Juliet, Verona is another Italian classic that you can't go wrong visiting and Andrea's apartment is amazing value. For a couple, it's incredibly spacious with a full kitchen, laundry and dining/lounge room with a beautiful modern bathroom. It was definitely my favourite apartment of the entire four months in terms of being functional, aesthetically pleasing and spacious. It was probably a 10 minute walk from the town centre and a very pleasant one at that. I couldn't recommend enough staying in Andrea's apartment - it was perfect.
#5 VERNAZZA

Giuliana lets a series of rooms in an apartment building similar to the one in Siena. Vernazza is the fourth town in the Cinque Terre region of Italy and dare I say, it is the most beautiful. This Bnb is similar to a hotel suite with its own private bathroom, a spacious bedroom and the basic amenities for tea and coffee etc which is delightful considering its close radius to existing restaurant and cafes. There aren't really any cars within the walls of the five towns and thus accomodation is all located within walking distance of everything. Giuliana's apartments are tucked up the top near the train station and the start of one of the hikes making it extremely accessible for popping between the different coastal towns. It's a five minute walk from everything from cafes to shops to the mermaid water the town is perched so carefully on. You can't go wrong with this one.
